Packaged reading corpus (public/data/mencius.json)
This is the live corpus used by the passage pages. Its embedded source field records Chinese Wikisource / ChinTransMem alignment for Chinese and James Legge for English.
Chinese Text Project: Mengzi
Used to verify chapter order, traditional Chinese text, and reference structure.
Wikisource: The Works of Mencius
Public-domain James Legge translation used as the aligned English base layer, not for long copied excerpts.
Editorial scope and limits
This site's reading and editorial method
The site provides bilingual reading and explanation layers that retain checkable passage locations. It is not a critical edition, a substitute for scholarly commentary, or a ruling on variants between textual witnesses.
Pinyin and corpus-generation note
Pinyin is generated with pinyin-pro; classical Chinese polyphones still require editorial review. Treat the reading layer as traceable assistance, not an uncontested scholarly conclusion.
Return to a comparable primary text
For quotation, research, or a disputed reading, check the primary-text link and the edition used. Every passage page retains its canonical location as a verification entry point.
